“Few winters back, I walked into the woods with rope in my hand. Repented my sins, set it tight and went on to hang myself. Little did I know, that I used an old and damaged rope. Old hag and I fell down down so badly”.
Laughs Žofia, an 89 year’s old woman, who has lived in Kopanice region, on the border of Czech Republic and Slovakia, her whole life. The way of life is not easy on the outskirts of human settlements. Two elements are ruling these lands, no access to proper life standarts and rotten human personalities.
Project Kopanice tells two tales. The first one is about an uneasy life of the original settlers, who to this day live in Kopanice region. The second story is a tale about relentness desire to acquaintance and intimate life of a group of young adults, who visit this region only as holiday goers, travelling for rest from work and stress.
With great interest, they follow raw but more realest life in the Kopanice, when finally they become equivalent to the settlers while being more used to their way of life. In the evening, after sunset, in the same way as insect circling the light, they meet according to old traditions by the fire and their stories connect for a bit.
Kopanice was displayed at Photogether Gallery (Zlín, Czech Republic) in 2023.
Publication called "Žítková-Liešna" limited to 30 copies, was released in 2023, as part of Krajcir's bachelor's degree work.
